  Elia Nuqul Foundation

The Elia Nuqul Foundation was established in 2008 by the Nuqul family as a philanthropic entity focusing on social and economic development initiatives benefitting individuals and local communities within the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Foundation is governed by a 9-member Board of Trustees that is comprised of individuals with expertise from the private and civic sectors so they may assist in guiding the Foundation’s operational and technical activities in a strategic, sound and transparent manner. The establishment of the Foundation was inspired by the vision and aspirations of Elia Nuqul, who has always believed in the importance of philanthropy. Moreover, Elia Nuqul greatly values learning and the prospects it has to offer. He acknowledges the ambitions of individuals who grow up with few choices and opportunities afforded to them, but have aspirations and the motivation to improve their lives. The Foundation therefore views education as a top priority, equipping youth with the skills, tools and knowledge to excel and positively impact their socio-economic well-being. The Foundation has been a dream in the making, not only for Elia Nuqul, but for his sons and daughters who also share in his passion and commitment for philanthropy. The establishment of the Foundation represents the beginning of an important era that aims to inspire future generations of the Nuqul family to promote the values and beliefs of Elia Nuqul for years to come. Most importantly, the Nuqul family aspires to institutionalize and strengthen endeavors in philanthropy to maximize impact and benefit for disadvantaged people and communities throughout the Kingdom.

Vision

Our vision is to enable local communities to lead a just, humane and healthy life, in a society in which all people are treated with respect and dignity and provided the opportunity to excel and achieve their full potential as productive citizens.

Mission

Our mission is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Jordanians by providing them with enriching opportunities, knowledge and skills to lead safe, healthy and productive lives.

Guiding Principles

Motivation behind the family foundation is passion and personal commitment Commit to helping people help themselves Strive to find innovative solutions to complex problems Address causes rather than symptoms of problems Place great value on partnerships and collaboration Promote the active engagement of our partners – individuals, institutions and communities to ensure ‘ownership’ and sustainability Highlight the value of diversity Provide opportunities, not charity Integrity – guided by our code of ethics

Our Approach

The Foundation’s approach is based on three fundamental principles in the promotion of philanthropy – results, partnerships and sustainability. Results-Oriented The Foundation focuses its work on results-oriented programs - it does not support individual projects, events or conferences. We adopt a lifecycle approach to programs and projects, focusing on achieving outcomes, implementing performance measurement, learning and changing, and reporting performance. Partnership-Based The Foundation encourages collaboration and partnerships with reputable organizations and institutions that have the capacity and expertise to carry out activities and implement programs that are in line with the Foundation’s vision, mission and objectives. Sustainability-Focused The Foundation supports projects and programs that are innovative and meet emerging societal needs, and through pioneering initiatives, can become “models of replication” based on best practices and lessons learned.

STREAMS OF INTERVENTIONS

The Elia Nuqul Foundation endeavors to operate in two streams of interventions – the Elia Nuqul Scholarship Fund and the Social Entrepreneurship Program, as outlined below.

  • ELIA NUQUL SCHOLARSHIP FUND Building on the existing scholarship fund, the Fund aims to encourage the development of youth in Jordan, through access to higher education at universities, community colleges or Vocational Training Centers. We believe that investing in education is an investment in our communities – a positive impact that will be realized long beyond graduation. Apart from covering tuition costs, scholarship recipients are provided with a living stipend, and in the future, ENF will collaborate with partners to provide training programs and communtiy service interventions that enhance their personal and professional development.

  • SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM Globally, social entrepreneurship is becoming an increasingly recognized sector that is achieving triumphant results in addressing societal needs through innovative community-based solutions. In Jordan however, the concept is in its early stages, and needs to be institutionalized to provide sound, up-to-date resources outlining best practices and enhancing innovation rather than re-inventing the wheel. The Elia Nuqul Foundation aims to roll out a tailor-made (Jordanized) social entrepreneurship program to provide the necessary skills, tools and knowledge for individuals to become effective social entrepreneurs. This will be in parallel to providing opportunities to learn by doing and becoming involved in designing, planning and implementing a social enterprise. ENF endeavours to collaborate with partners to train a core group of individuals, providing them with the foundations of social entrepreneurship and working with them through practical, hands-on training of how to start and maintain a social enterprise. Participants will have the chance of developing a plan for a social enterprise in designated communities.
